New Build Is Live - Patch v1.175 Codename: Conrectus Ligaturae
27 Aug | 4:00 pm

New or Updated Features

  • You can now double-click to move on the campaign map.
  • Revamped key bindings: defaults have been changed to be more intuitive and grouped by topics or UI categories, and new hotkeys have been added.
  • The Leadership Perk “Command” has been reworked: it now unlocks all advanced Crew Combat actions passively and when Resourcefulness is spent, it raises Combat Strength and Defense by 15% as well as turns Critical Failure rolls to Failure.
  • The effects of multiple “Terrifying” Perks no longer stack. Stacking caused Skills that target multiple positions with characters with the Perk to be close to useless.
  • You can now butcher Beasts and Mounts directly at your Outpost instead of having to move them to the comitatus.
  • You no longer lose Mounts when Fighters leave you during Events (ie. Outriders do not take their Mounts) for narrative reasons.

Lore Post - Wazirhai
03 Aug | 9:00 pm

Wazirhai, an oasis deep in the Bronze Desert, has been neglected and overlooked for a long time – until the Ratharnak Alliance has boldly purchased its exploitation rights. Soon, a fortified encampment was set up so that the agents of the Trading House could easily access the oil reserves under the lakes only to find that no such pockets existed. Slightly disheartened, the Ratharnak decided to stay nevertheless and build up a different sort of operation in this land so far from their beloved Dragonlands.

Teaser – The Dead Forest
04 May | 10:00 am

This week’s post continues in the vein of teasers; we’re very excited to reveal just the right amount of information. Thus, we present to you a place you will be able to visit, one brimming with dread and decrepitude: the Dead Forest. Shrouded in perpetual darkness with a smattering of blackened, lifeless trees, the Dead Forest offers little save an eerie death to those unfortunate enough to discover its curse firsthand. That, however, does little to stop many an adventurer or vagrus from exploring its tenebrous glades – there is profit to be made here, and those in the service of the Empire or the Dragonlands are Tartaris-bent on pursuing it. As for what the place looks like? See it for yourself above.

Project Update - New Region Teaser (video)
01 Oct | 10:00 am

This time, we bring you a little teaser about the next area we are about to add to Vagrus, namely the twin salt basins north of the Crimson Gate and the Hills of Plenty. It includes - among other things - the town of Salum, where the Dragonlands is in control of a faltering salt mining operation and seems to be oblivious to certain issues surrounding it. Is someone hiding something? You'll have to dig deeper to find out. Or just harvest salt and try to get rich in the process.

Character Artwork - Dragon Mages
05 May | 10:00 am

'We do not worship the Dragons like you do your false Imperial Gods. We do not sacrifice to them or beg for their fickle blessings. Our Dragonlords are our paragons; a testament to what every being can aspire to and the source of the Flame that lives in all of us. That same Flame can burn your ass to crisp if you dare slander their name again.'

Character Artwork - Finndurarth
17 Dec | 10:00 am

By now you have seen a lot of available Companions from Vagrus, but there are still one or two up our sleeves. So, without further ado, let's talk a bit about Finndurarth, a new and powerful potential addition to your team.

The Dragonmage Finndurarth is the protégé of a powerful noble family from the northern Dragonlands. She has shown signs of arcane affinity from early childhood and was tutored by powerful spellcasters who had unlocked her Flame (the source of magical energy that Dragonmages possess) and taught her how to use it well. However, Finndurarth's exceptional upbringing and brilliant mind would lead her to be discontent with 'simply' being a powerful and influential mage, so she also signed up to become a diplomat, honing her inherent talent for speaking and mediating. Though by no means an expert in either, her diplomatic skills as well as magical abilities make the young Dragonmage a valuable asset for any comitatus. However, her inexperience with journeying through wastelands as well as often naive or idealistic world view can spell trouble for her traveling companions.

In gameplay terms, Finndurarth is a powerful spellcaster unlike any other previous Companion. Her lightning-based attacks can deal with single opponents and groups alike - you only have to be aware of her depleting Power statistic that fuels her spells. She can also cast a protective arcane shield on a friendly target and - thanks to her wings - fly to any empty position on the battlefield. You have to be careful though, because although Finndurarth can dish out a fair amount of damage, she is rather on the squishy side.

As for the artwork (created by Bazsó Lossonczy), the challenges involved her having wings as well as many Draconic features like small horns, several different skin tones, inhuman eyes, claws, and more, and yet she had to look likeable and even a bit naive. We are very satisfied with the outcome, and in Finndurarth we see a Companion who is very much apart from the others in look and design yet fits well into the established art style.

Hidden Stash and Smuggling Contraband (Game Design Post)
26 Sep | 10:00 am

As the new Trading system was shaping up for Milestone 5 alongside the emergence in our storylines of some of the less lawful factions (such as the Loader's Guild), we figured we would need a sub-system for smuggling goods as it makes sense that these organizations would be willing to hire a vagrus to do just that.

Character Poses - Krawag
17 Sep | 10:00 am

The Krawag - draconic reptiles bred to be hunter-killers or guard animals - are easily among the most dangerous enemies in Vagrus. Some of them go rogue and live the solitary life of an apex predator in the cruel wilderness of the Riven Realms, giving vagri like you trouble; others are captured and sent into arenas for entertainment; while still others roam the land in the service of the Dragonlands and its armies.

Character Poses - Dragonguard
13 Aug | 10:00 am

Dragonguard are the elite soldiers of the Dragonlands, tentative allies of the Empire. Their training is extremely tough, and only already accomplished soldiers are selected to take part in it. Equipped with powerful Dragonsteel equipment that harnesses the magic of Dragonkind, these elite troopers are among the most dangerous opponents you can come across in the Riven Realms. Be sure not to make enemies of them needlessly.

The different versions of Dragonguard not only sport different coloring but also in the elemental effects of their combat skills. The red Dragonguard, for example, applies fire damage on its strikes with the buff ability, the blue one applies lightning, while the green applies Poison.

Disciplined Swing: A basic attack that is very accurate due to the rigorous training of the Dragonguard but has low critical chance. It is still deadly enough combined with the amazing toughness of these soldiers.

Invoke the Flame: Each and every member of the Dragonguard is able to wield the Flame, that is, the power of the Dragonlord they swore fealty to. The Flame is channeled through their Dragonsteel equipment and enhances that gear for a short time, granting them Resistance bonuses as well as elemental damage on their normal attacks.

Draconic Roar: The Dragonguard make use of another draconic power - the mighty roar of their Dragon counterparts. Even used by a mere mortal, this ability is quite devastating, potentially Stunning the target and applying a Fear debuff on them for a short period.

Even a lone Dragonguard can be quite a challenge to a Companion thanks to their amazing defenses, stamina, and selection of skills but a platoon will be very tough nut to crack even for an experienced band of adventurers.
