Character Artwork - Finndurarth
17 Dec | 10:00 am

By now you have seen a lot of available Companions from Vagrus, but there are still one or two up our sleeves. So, without further ado, let's talk a bit about Finndurarth, a new and powerful potential addition to your team.

The Dragonmage Finndurarth is the protégé of a powerful noble family from the northern Dragonlands. She has shown signs of arcane affinity from early childhood and was tutored by powerful spellcasters who had unlocked her Flame (the source of magical energy that Dragonmages possess) and taught her how to use it well. However, Finndurarth's exceptional upbringing and brilliant mind would lead her to be discontent with 'simply' being a powerful and influential mage, so she also signed up to become a diplomat, honing her inherent talent for speaking and mediating. Though by no means an expert in either, her diplomatic skills as well as magical abilities make the young Dragonmage a valuable asset for any comitatus. However, her inexperience with journeying through wastelands as well as often naive or idealistic world view can spell trouble for her traveling companions.

In gameplay terms, Finndurarth is a powerful spellcaster unlike any other previous Companion. Her lightning-based attacks can deal with single opponents and groups alike - you only have to be aware of her depleting Power statistic that fuels her spells. She can also cast a protective arcane shield on a friendly target and - thanks to her wings - fly to any empty position on the battlefield. You have to be careful though, because although Finndurarth can dish out a fair amount of damage, she is rather on the squishy side.

As for the artwork (created by Bazsó Lossonczy), the challenges involved her having wings as well as many Draconic features like small horns, several different skin tones, inhuman eyes, claws, and more, and yet she had to look likeable and even a bit naive. We are very satisfied with the outcome, and in Finndurarth we see a Companion who is very much apart from the others in look and design yet fits well into the established art style.

Obedience (Video)
12 Dec | 10:00 am

This week's video demonstrates how Obedience - the stat describing your slaves' willingness to cooperate - can be modified by your own actions on the Crew Management UI pane.

In the video, a slave is liberated first, which immediately raises Obedience (by the indicated number in the action popup). This is quite expensive, as slaves cost a lot of money.

Hidden Stash and Contraband (Video)
05 Dec | 10:00 am

This video demonstrates the difference between showing up to the gates of a major city with contraband in your cargo hold and contraband hidden in your stash.
In the first case, you can try to bribe or con the guards but it's a difficult (and often expensive) venture, which can end in fines, faction reputation loss, or worse.
Contraband tucked away in the hidden stash - a piece of equipment you can get from certain places - hides the goods from the inspection, however, and you can safely take it into cities. The question is only whether or not you can sell it there.

Character Poses - Scortaur
03 Dec | 10:00 am

This time, we'll revisit the dreaded Scortaur and take a look at their stats and skills in general. These creatures are devious, fierce, and horribly mutated, so you'll have to be prepared to be challenged by their combat abilities when you run into them.

The most apparent stats when it comes to these horrid savages are the high Vitality and Block chance, which often adds a bonus to their already considerable Armor. Additionally, they are quite resistant to many status effects and have great Initiative. Their four Combat Skills make them versatile opponents:

Project Update - AdventureX Show (UK)
28 Nov | 10:00 am

We went to London to exhibit Vagrus at AdventureX 2019 on the first weekend of November and it's time to talk a bit about all the amazing things that happened there.

The two-day event was full of awesome speakers who gave talks about the aspects of narrative in video games, be it writing, design, methods of storytelling, or other intriguing subjects. Wish we had more time to attend these but the two of us very so busy talking to participants and showing off Vagrus that we could only watch a handful of speakers, taking turns. We did have a great time chatting with people though - the event was very cozy, intimate even: a lot of like- and open-minded people coming together for a common interest's sake.

Location Artwork - Maar Gorad
26 Nov | 10:00 am

I'd sooner go walking in Maar Gorad.

- A common saying in terra supra, meaning 'not a chance'

Not all regions of the northern part of the continent are deserts or arid wasteland, even though those are the most recognizable features as well as the most numerous. One region stands out with its wet, humid atmosphere and its moors that are almost impossible to navigate: Maar Gorad, the Unforgiving Swamp.

Heroselect (Video)
21 Nov | 10:00 am

This week's video showcases the feature we refer to as 'heroselect', though the people you are selecting from are rarely heroes. Rather, they are your Companions, and you will often be asked to select a certain number of them to take on ventures or segments of missions.

In the video, you can see the arena fight Event ask you to select four Companions you take into the fighting pit. After selecting your Companions thusly (and before rejoining the others), Perk tests, combat deployment, and all other effects only calculate with the selected Companions.

Character Poses - Yrg Worker
19 Nov | 10:00 am

The most common type of Yrg are Workers, so much so, in fact, that most people on the continent equate the Yrg race with these nearly mindless drones. Though there are many more sub-species of these insectoids, the Workers indeed make up the vast majority of hives. With utter disregard for their own safety they build, haul, guard, and explore in the name of the hive. Sometimes workers are abducted by specialized hunters and are made to serve as mounts, beasts of burden, or even arena fodder by the use of crystal magic.

Enhanced and Extended Sound Effects (Game Design Post)
14 Nov | 10:00 am

One of the great benefits of our successful crowdfunding campaign is being able to expand on parts of the game we felt we were unsatisfied with. One such area was Sound Effects, which was largely (but not exclusively) populated by placeholders up till recently.
