In this series of “Revisited” articles, we’re taking a look at iconic or interesting locations in the playable part of the Riven Realms and invoke their unique atmosphere. Music plays a key role in building the game’s ambiance, and so we’ve decided to prepare short videos to get the vibe across.

Today, we take another look at the Vigilus Tower, a wayward fortification in the Jagged Waste. A blackstone tower that is over 150 feet tall over a huge rocky hill, Vigilus is a great achievement of Imperial engineering. The thorns and barbs adorning it are of the new age architectural style, and they are meant to strike fear into the enemies of the Empire. The tower was built alongside the nearby Fort Viridium some time before the Orc War to guard precious resources in the area as well as the ventures that harvest them. The great fortress was thought to be too far from the important crossroads and so the Vigilus Tower was raised to serve as a forward outpost to it.

Perhaps even more ominously, a hidden sacred place is said to hide among the rocky base of Vigilus. Dedicated to the Black Sun, the sanctum is constantly guarded by a cadre of the knights of the Empire’s most fearsome holy orders. Common folks have no knowledge of the shrine, let alone the reason for its existence beneath the grim fort.
