Project Update - The Open World
26 Mar | 10:00 am

Hey everyone,

we wanted to provide an update on Vagrus as we come close to releasing the first Open World build. We've been talking about it for a long time now, we know, but we hope you will appreciate the ambition of this small team, along with all the effort and heart poured into the game when you get your hands on it.

Project Update - New Combat Traits
19 Mar | 10:00 am

What did we learn when we started implementing the Specter and Shade enemies? Well, apart from them looking ghoulishly amazing, we realized that we need a new mechanic to best describe and present the idea behind them, that being physical damage defense and also methods to crack it.

So we added two new Combat Traits for these, Impervious and Unstoppable.

Project Update - December 2019
19 Dec | 10:00 am

Hey All,

it's been a long time since we posted a project update, and we have a number of important news to share so here we go!

Lost Pilgrims is 2 Years Old

It is hard to believe that we founded the studio two years ago - who would have thought that time was going to fly so quickly. We have achieved many things and learned a LOT about game development. We lived through highs and lows alike, but the most important thing is that we persevered. Just to give you an idea, here are a few highlights:

Character Artwork - Finndurarth
17 Dec | 10:00 am

By now you have seen a lot of available Companions from Vagrus, but there are still one or two up our sleeves. So, without further ado, let's talk a bit about Finndurarth, a new and powerful potential addition to your team.

The Dragonmage Finndurarth is the protégé of a powerful noble family from the northern Dragonlands. She has shown signs of arcane affinity from early childhood and was tutored by powerful spellcasters who had unlocked her Flame (the source of magical energy that Dragonmages possess) and taught her how to use it well. However, Finndurarth's exceptional upbringing and brilliant mind would lead her to be discontent with 'simply' being a powerful and influential mage, so she also signed up to become a diplomat, honing her inherent talent for speaking and mediating. Though by no means an expert in either, her diplomatic skills as well as magical abilities make the young Dragonmage a valuable asset for any comitatus. However, her inexperience with journeying through wastelands as well as often naive or idealistic world view can spell trouble for her traveling companions.

In gameplay terms, Finndurarth is a powerful spellcaster unlike any other previous Companion. Her lightning-based attacks can deal with single opponents and groups alike - you only have to be aware of her depleting Power statistic that fuels her spells. She can also cast a protective arcane shield on a friendly target and - thanks to her wings - fly to any empty position on the battlefield. You have to be careful though, because although Finndurarth can dish out a fair amount of damage, she is rather on the squishy side.

As for the artwork (created by Bazsó Lossonczy), the challenges involved her having wings as well as many Draconic features like small horns, several different skin tones, inhuman eyes, claws, and more, and yet she had to look likeable and even a bit naive. We are very satisfied with the outcome, and in Finndurarth we see a Companion who is very much apart from the others in look and design yet fits well into the established art style.

Creature Artwork - Yrg Warrior
15 Oct | 10:00 am

'I'm not afraid of your little bug. I've seen its kind before, squished its kind before. And you dare call it a 'warrior'?! Yrg are pathetic, as are people who think they can measure up to real warriors. So send it in, let me splatter its insect innards over the hot sands of the arena.'

- The Orc pit fighter Logh'Ran's last words before being vivisected in the arena by a Warrior Yrg

Character Poses - Krawag
17 Sep | 10:00 am

The Krawag - draconic reptiles bred to be hunter-killers or guard animals - are easily among the most dangerous enemies in Vagrus. Some of them go rogue and live the solitary life of an apex predator in the cruel wilderness of the Riven Realms, giving vagri like you trouble; others are captured and sent into arenas for entertainment; while still others roam the land in the service of the Dragonlands and its armies.

Character Poses - Imperial Legionnaire
03 Sep | 10:00 am

The backbone of the Imperial legions are its legionnaires and for a good reason. Disciplined and rigorously trained, these men and women are further hardened by years of service in faraway provinces and front lines, which involves incessant marching with heavy equipment, surviving in hostile environments, and of course combat. Due to their quality equipment and developed fighting style the legionnaires are among the most successful armed forces of the continent.

Both the regular legionnaire and the legionnaire captain are enemies you can encounter in the game - usually when you go up against the law or the Empire in some way. Alone these soldiers are tough but manageable opponents; their true strength comes from standing next to each other as they grant Armor to any neighboring allies in the same line. This is complemented by their set of combat skills:

Gladius Stab: A single-target melee attack that has the Armor Piercing property. Though it does not deal a lot of damage, it is reliable and accurate.

Scutum Shove: The legionnaire uses his large shield (scutum) to shove a melee opponent, pushing them back and dealing low damage. This attack is very difficult to block.

Formations!: Only the legionnaire captain has this combat skill. It can be used to buff a single friendly unit with bonus Accuracy, Block, and Resistance against all effects.

Though lacking real burst damage potential, these soldiers are great at becoming a great barrier that is almost impossible to break up. Using shoves, they set their enemies for accurate attacks and wear them down slowly but steadily. You must be aware of this and try to separate them to rob them of their buffs. Otherwise, you'll have a hard time dealing with them.

Trade System (Game Design Post)
01 Aug | 10:00 am

Ever since we came up with the idea of Vagrus, a game where you manage a comitatus, we knew we needed to develop an elaborate, dynamic trade system that would serve as one of the major features of the game and would also aid in fleshing out a living world.

Basic Premises

While trading was always to be one of the main sources of income for the player, we also wanted to avoid creating a pure trading simulator game. It's not that those are not fun for the right people - stories about Gabor dominating the Auction House on our server in World of Warcraft for a period of time still surface in conversations among friends - but because our strengths lie elsewhere. Our unique setting, The Riven Realms, and telling stories with memorable characters was the first and foremost motivation to create Vagrus, so it was also much more likely to excel in that rather than in a simulation - which we knew relatively little of.

Location Artwork - Sewers
30 Jul | 10:00 am

You will most likely come across the artwork you can see here when wandering into sewers below Imperial cities in Vagrus' main campaign. This might not seem a very good idea since such places are typically neglected and extremely filthy. They are also most likely infested by mutated beasts or stray undead. Yet a vagrus needs to plunge into such vile places more often than not.

Creature Artwork - Yrg Worker
23 Jul | 10:00 am

'When we arrived at the observation  post, Borgan was nowhere to be seen. The craven slaves pointed to tracks in the sand that looked like someone had been dragged away, accompanied by small, triangular stab marks – Yrg prints, I presumed correctly. These led to a dark crevice at the foot of one of the towers. We tried calling after Borgan but there was no answer. Eventually, I sent down one of the slaves with a torch. The unfortunate bloke happened upon the mutilated body of Borgan down there and fled back up in a panic. Yrg are clearly present down in the underside of the city, that much is certain. This ties in perfectly with what we know of the Elven tribes of the Second Age. The accounts of Sage Ikar record that the realm of Dor Anthelas was involved in a great war against the Yrg that lasted for  millennia. What these insect broods were like, I cannot imagine, but  they must have been a far cry from the mostly docile Yrg we know today.'
