The Many Faces of Javek
11 Jun | 10:00 am

After discussing the Supporter Pack cosmetics of the dark knight Sedarias in a previous article, we thought balance would be best served by taking a similar look at Javek, the sorcerer with telepathic powers. Naturally, these two Companions (who you can get via the “Old Acquaintances” DLC), as well as Vorax (who everyone gets for free), have their own unique appearances when you also get one of the Supporter Packs.

So what would Javek wear should you choose to support us by picking up one of these packs.

For the ‘Ruinous’ Supporter Pack, Javek’s appearance was based on a Dark Elven clan, namely the elusive Faergal. Despite staying with the design of a turban and loose cloth apparel, the cosmetics also have distinctly Moreldin elements, like the dark hued hardened leather armor pieces, the silvery decorative edges, as well as some curved, very Elven motifs. The slightly greenish coloring is specific to the Faergal Clan, as is the mind-enhancing gem embedded in the headpiece. Although Javek’s story and character does not match the Dark Elven theme at first glance, the pairing begins to make more sense (albeit still non-canon, like all Supporter Pack appearances thus far) when one considers who the Faergal are. In the major, final storyline of At the Heart of Ruin, this particular clan of Moreldin are revealed to be practiced psions, with their nobility practicing their own form of mind-magic, not too dissimilar to that of Javek.

For the ‘Cultured’ Supporter Pack, we leaned into another one of the many, diverse cultures of the Riven Realms to create Javek’s look – that of the Sadirar. Although they have not been mentioned as of late, those of you who have been deep into the main campaign probably know these desert nomads quite well. They worship the Great Spirit, but each of the four great tribes also follows one of the elemental great spirits, adapting their culture, way of life, and magic to their characteristics. Javek here is depicted similar to a Vitrar water shaman, his appearance complete with blue-white cloths with wave-like patterns, tattoos of the same type, and no headgear, but the wild, dense hair often associated with the Sadirar as a whole. Perhaps in another life, one less fraught with tragedy and despair, Javek would donate his many great talents to such a peaceful tribe and guide others in spiritual and mental healing. One can always dream.

Of course, to be able to change Javek’s appearance, you must own him as a main campaign Companion via the Old Acquaintances DLC, unlock him through its storyline, and also have one of the Supporter Packs.

As always, we are grateful for all the support, feedback, and kindness we receive from you all. Until next time, keep being awesome, stay safe, and conquer the wasteland!
