This week we’re bringing you a glimpse of what some might consider slithering death. It is the Salamander, one of At the Heart of Ruin’s many new enemies. Just coming into contact with one would terrify even the most stalwart souls, as the look of malice in their eyes is inescapable, and their speed, cunning, and fiery abilities make them formidable opponents in battle.
‘So, where do these fiery, serpentine creatures dwell?’ one might ask, and the answer is remarkably simple: in fiery caverns, pools of lava, and anywhere they can be around extreme heat. Unfortunately, these are the very places one might find valuable Dwarven treasures and scrap metal. Known for their graceful speed, deadly bite, and unnatural stamina, Salamanders can be difficult opponents to vanquish but with the right companions they can be brought low reliably.
Needless to say, many locations in Varnurud and the rest of the Mountains of Fire serve as the perfect home for our serpentine foes. You can expect to see them if you have the guts to traverse the broken and perilous land, but don’t expect parley – they are vicious, hungry creatures who do not take well to humanoids. How did they come to be? Were they always denizens of the mountains or did the Calamity create them from something else? In the barbaric lands of the far west, nobody seems to know – or care. They only wish to survive chance encounters with hunting packs of Salamanders. You, too, can only hope you won’t encounter too many of them.
You’ll have to wait until you can test your mettle against such creatures, however, but we’ll be back with other teasers in the meantime. Until then, stay vigilant, have fun, and conquer the wasteland!
