'At the Heart of Ruin' Press Round-up
13 Nov | 10:00 am

Since At the Heart of Ruin’s release, we’ve been honored to receive press from a variety of outlets, on YouTube, and be promoted by fellow developers who are kind enough to give the expansion a shout-out.

Most of all, we are grateful to our community, who have been tirelessly helpful, attentive, and kind in their welcoming of the expansion. We’re always interested in hearing what our players think, and others can be informed by your recommendations, so if you’ve been playing At the Heart of Ruin, we’d ask you to leave a review if you haven’t already. Every single one helps a lot.

Now, let’s get into the thick of it: the media coverage itself. First off, there’s Ben the Human. Ben is one of the pillars of the Vagrus community, one whom we interviewed earlier this year. His playthroughs offer fine insights into the game, and now, he’s playing At the Heart of Ruin. His first look video can be found here if you want to check out a great playthrough with an awesome host.

On the more traditional, article-based media front, we’re happy to see that sites like RPG Site, RPG Codex, and RPG Watch wrote about the release, as well as Turn Based Lovers. We also appeared in the ChoiceBeat: The Visual Novel and Interactive Fiction Zine magazine, in the "ChoiceBeat's Most Wanted" section. Although one could argue that Vagrus is more complex than your average visual novel, we are absolutely thrilled to be included and showcased for lovers of the genre – a genre from which we built a lot of our own game out.

Platforms play a pivotal role in the games industry, and to that end, we are eternally grateful to GOG.com and ID_XBox, who advertised the expansion on their social media channels. We also made it into a selection of Frightfully Good Games and Releases in This Week on Xbox! Nintendo news sites like Nintendo Everything and GoNintendo also shared news of the expansion’s arrival, helping to spread the word about our upcoming release of At the Heart of Ruin on their platform.

The fellow developers who promoted the expansion are a force unto themselves. We were absolutely stoked to be featured in updates written by Iron Tower Studio (Colony Ship), Ishtar Games (Dead in Antares), Worldwalker Games (Wildermyth), Trese Brothers Games (Cyber Knights), and last but certainly not least by Red Hook Studios, the creators of Darkest Dungeon, a favorite of our studio and a clear source of inspiration for certain elements in Vagrus.

To add onto an already impressive followup for the expansion, the week after its release we were hosting Turn Based Thursday on X and BSky. Over 50 indie game devs joined to show their incredible projects, and the support that the members of this community provide each other is exemplary indeed.

Finally, if you’re looking to delve a bit deeper into some of the minds here at Lost Pilgrims, you might find our interview with Indie Game Picks prior to launch to be interesting. Additionally, you can take a look at the AMA on Reddit that involved our Creative Lead, Geri, and our Project Lead, Gabor, the two founders of the studio. They delved into the questions in impressive depth. In keeping with this theme, the two leads will be featured (in Hungarian) on the popular CheckPoint podcast, which occasionally introduces Hungarian indie studios beside covering aspects of retro gaming.

We are honored to have such a great community, friends across the industry, and prospects for the future! For now, however, we bid you farewell and give you our usual send-off – stay vigilant, stay awesome, and conquer the wasteland!
