Avernum Revisited
02 Jul | 10:00 am

In this new series of articles, we’re revisiting iconic or interesting locations in the playable part of the Riven Realms and invoke their unique atmosphere. Music plays a key role in building the game’s ambiance, and so we’ve decided to prepare short videos to get the vibe across.

The first revisited place is the city of Avernum, one of the major settlements of the Searing Plains. So close to the Mountains of Fire with its volatile volcanoes, as well as the lava rivers that spawn constantly from them, it is no wonder that people named the place after the gates of a fiery underworld. Its strange ruler, the soft-spoken but tyrannical Prefectus, has allied himself with the Empire, but in truth, he runs his city as his own domain. Avernum has many a sight to behold – its darkstone walls embedded with gigantic bestial skeletons, the mighty Slagfort, the watering holes and slums of the Scoria district, or the fabled underground necropolis called the Ossuary are ominous locales that draw travelers and locals alike.

We hope you have enjoyed this brief trip to Avernum. Would you like to see similar shorts accompanied by moody music based on a Riven Realms location, and if so, which place would you revisit? Let us know!

Until then, stay safe, stay awesome, and conquer the wasteland!
