August Update: Wasteland Trader
13 Aug | 7:00 pm

In this article, we’re taking a closer look at the fixes and improvements introduced since the most recent major update, bringing together the key changes in one place. With the release of the Expedition storyline’s final chapter, we reached a major milestone for Vagrus, but our work on the game continues. Since its release, we’ve been steadily addressing community-reported issues, improving performance and stability, and polishing the experience through patches and hotfixes across all platforms. As of late, the focus was on campaign map movement and trade economics. You can jump to the list of changes at the end of the article.

And while you’re here, we’d like to ask for your support in another small but meaningful way. If you’ve enjoyed your journey through the Riven Realms, please consider leaving Vagrus a review. Every review helps more players discover the game and makes a real difference to an indie studio like ours.

Finally, if you’ve been meaning to start – or continue – your journey across the Riven Realms, our Steam End of Summer Sale is currently underway, with Vagrus and its expansions available at a discount. It’s a great time to challenge the wasteland!

And with all that said, it is time to take a look at the patch notes, which you can find below:

Important Note: Considering the extent of the improvements, there is little to no chance that we broke nothing in the process. Assume that we did not want to make anyone's life harder. If you see something amiss, please flag it to us using the usual channels, like the inbuilt reporting tool (F1 button), forums, and our Discord server.

Wasteland Trader (Update 1.3080810G)

Terrain Modifiers and Trade Overhaul

  • Terrain campaign map movement modifiers were reactivated, so old paths may become less optimal and new ones will emerge. Expect changes in Movement Point costs in difficult terrain areas.
  • Overhauled trade pricing and route economics. Import prices now respond more meaningfully to distance, terrain, and twilight, reviving profitable short-range trade routes that had gone flat while keeping long hauls worthwhile, and so more Goods are viable to trade across more of the map.
  • Applied changes to the source of Goods and demand across various nodes.

Companion and Crew Combat

  • Reduced combat lag that could occur in certain encounters with heavy enemy AI decision-making (enemies with multiple move&attack Skills, like Ifreanni).
  • The Taunt Skill attribute now works correctly with area-of-effect Skills – a taunted combatant's area Skills now hit in an area instead of effecting only the taunter.
  • “Defend the Beasts” and other Crew Combat defense orders now correctly protect against every attacker (including Sand Wyrms and raiders that previously slipped past the ward and wiped your Beasts).
  • Smoothened the combat exit and Victory/Defeat screen transitions – tooltips no longer show through the end-of-combat panel.
  • Various Character stat and Skill tooltips display correctly again.

Performance Improvements

  • Save files are now dramatically smaller (by about 57% on large late-game saves) and save faster, reducing end-of-day and autosave hitches.
  • Less stutter while travelling on the campaign map: triggering Events and other interface screens no longer causes repeated loading hitches.
  • Trimmed unnecessary background cleanup pauses at points like breaking camp, and moved more interface art to streamed loading to improve performance and smoothness.

Localization

  • We did a broad translation pass across all supported languages. Many previously English-only strings are now translated, including: Combat Log, Event outcomes, Faction Tier Perks&Penalties, calendar dates, Market and Outpost interfaces, tooltips, and confirmation dialogs.
  • Better support for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean – correct date ordering, name-first stat and effect chips (e.g. "Morale -1"), Asian font handling for controller prompts, and correct word order for sentences that European languages build differently.
  • The game now uses your language from your system/platform settings on the first launch across all PC storefronts as well as on consoles.
  • Fixed installed community language packs that could wrongly blank out text and show English with a false "reviewed" tag, as well as stray translation-tool artifacts in a few machine-translated lines.

Fixes

  • Fixed script upgrades that could silently fail to trigger after saving and loading (e.g. Wazirhai not upgrading its settlement category). Affected saves are repaired automatically on loading them.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to get stuck and unable to leave Scrapheap after swapping Beast type.
  • Fixed a save issue that could leave some UI tabs permanently locked. Affected saves are healed on load.
  • Fixed several Achievements that never unlocked or unlocked under the wrong conditions (Delayed, Accomplished Explorer, Escort, and others), with retroactive credit for progress players already made.
  • Prologue saves no longer get gated behind DLC you don't own.
  • The Outpost administration screen now always shows the correct ration, shift, Supply-cost, and crew-capacity figures.
  • Blocked Prowess upgrades now clearly distinguish "needs more Insight" from a story progression lock for Companions.
  • Anti-defense values are now displayed properly in Skill and Gear tooltips.
  • Controllers: fixed an issue that caused the focus getting stuck on the Market quantity popup.
  • More reliable saving on PlayStation (resolved a class of save-mount failures).
  • Steam Deck on-screen keyboard now appears properly.
  • Nintendo Switch store and control terminology was brought in line with platform requirements.
  • Fixed several crashes and error spam players could hit (clicking certain map nodes, dragging an empty Mount slot, and a couple of UI edge cases).
  • General stability and reliability improvements under the hood.

Steam Deck

  • The on-screen keyboard now appears when entering text (save names, bug reports, etc.) on Steam Deck.

As ever, more is coming, so stay tuned and conquer the wasteland!
