The Soundtrack of Vagrus
22 Feb | 10:00 am

Today we’re going to focus on something essential to most people’s lives, and indeed, to the entire gaming industry: music. When we set about creating Vagrus many years ago, we knew that we wanted to place immersion first, and one surefire way to create and maintain immersion is with ambiance and music, of course. And so it was that we came to know the Humming Composer: the very talented individual responsible for Vagrus’s original soundtrack or at least for the core game. It is an hour long and includes eighteen tracks ranging from eerie to determined to ominous to downright sinister.

Among this writer’s favorites is the Main Theme, “Always Watching the Horizon” which just feels like Vagrus, and “Forlorn Kingdoms”, a foreboding piece that encapsulates the dark and gritty mood of the Riven Realms.

Thus, when we began production on Sunfire and Moonshadow, we knew that we’d need another ensemble of tracks that would be in line with the Bronze Desert’s atmosphere. Due to scheduling conflicts, another composer, Daniel Solyom, stepped in to score the music of the expansion. Luckily for us, Daniel was able to produce some of the finest work our soundtrack has to offer, including “Island of Improbability”, Kadaath’s theme, and “Jewel of the North”, the vibrant score that plays when vagri explore Kabur, the largest city in the Bronze Desert. The Humming Composer wasn’t finished either, contributing “Blood-tinged Dunes” to Sunfire and Moonshadow’s soundtrack.

The tracks for the expansion are available for the owners of the game’s soundtrack, which is incidentally discounted now – if you are thinking about picking it up, now is a good time.

All in all, Vagrus’s soundtrack is our pride and joy. We cannot thank the Humming Composer and Mr. Solyom enough for the immersion and atmosphere it has helped create. There’s nothing quite like a tabletop RPG with the right mood, and in our experience, our original soundtrack does encapsulate that quality of great background music well indeed.

That’s about it for this week. Stay safe, stay vigilant, and conquer the wasteland!
