Like most years, 2025 has been a year of ups and downs, but certainly at Lost Pilgrims, it’s been a satisfying year full of releases and interactions with our community. We’re happy to put the year behind us and welcome 2026, but today we’re going to do a bit of a retrospective on the past 12 months or so. If that sounds like your bag, stick around. We’re going topic by topic, and there’s a lot to talk about!
When we released Vagrus in October 2021, we could not have imagined that so many of you would become invested in the world of the Riven Realms. Ever since we have been busy trying to get the game to as many people as possible, but the sheer complexity of the game left us skeptical of the viability of a release on consoles. However, those days are long behind us, and we are thrilled to have brought Vagrus to Playstation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox.
Of course, releasing on console meant that we had to bring Vagrus’s attendant DLCs along for the ride. So, as the year progressed and our second expansion’s release closed in, we were ready.
Without a doubt the highlight of the year for us was the release of our most ambitious expansion to date, At the Heart of Ruin. Offering a tight but multi-layered and dense region fraught with conflict and rich with opportunities, the expansion has universally been received well. In fact, internal reports and player feedback have positioned it as our most popular DLC content yet. Scaling the volcanic hellscape that is the Mountains of Fire without the usual trappings of a traveling comitatus was an intriguing challenge to our veteran players, and the outing also presents a lot of choices (and consequences) that was appreciated.
At the Heart of Ruin is still receiving free content updates, the future pieces of which will expand on one of its major storylines. We’ve added the first one, The Gangs of Varnurud recently, and we’re planning to add the first sizable content drops early next year, so keep a look out for that.

With the console release just behind us, it was about time for an AMA, and working with the kind people of the Xbox community, our creative lead Geri Mácsai and studio head Gábor Szutorisz sat down to do just that while conducting a giveaway, too. Fans could interact with the two devs as they had expressed they wanted to, and we could shed a bit more light on Vagrus, the setting, the gameplay, and people involved in their creation. You can find the full AMA here. Practically everything was touched upon – lore, founding the studio, the day-to-day life of game dev, and where the inspiration for Vagrus and its world came from.

A quiz on Vagrus and Lost Pilgrims was the main affair of a recent team get-together of ours. Yes, it happened and, if this writer is being honest, he was dreading the idea. A quiz? What is this, a pub? Am I back in my early 20s again (I wish)? It wasn’t a pub and it wasn’t dreadful; in fact, it was quite the opposite. Laughter abounded and jokes either soared or fell flat. The most obscure of questions about Vagrus’s development or the Riven Realms’ lore were asked, and most importantly, we all had a blast. All in all, the team get-together – and the discussions about the future that went with it – was a resounding success. Those who could attend were divided into teams of two; questions were graded as either easy, medium, or hard, and points were assigned based on that difficulty.
The battle started out slow, with almost no one getting a question right, but as time moved forward, we all focused. We zoned in. We began to understand the task and vibe with it. Two teams seemed to battle it out for the trophy – a bag of sweets – but then, in the final round it was stolen away by Viktor and Ákos, both of whom had no business winning!
But it’s okay because they shared the sweets. Phew!

With two expansions and two fairly large DLCs behind us, we look to the future with bright eyes. What, you might ask, can you expect from us? Well, we’re not quite ready to share that yet, but rest assured that when we can, we absolutely will.
We’d also like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! We hope you have the time to do whatever you like to do in the holiday season, and that if it is gaming, you might keep the wasteland in mind.
Better yet, if you find yourself out there, struggling against it, we recommend you do as we say – stay vigilant, stay awesome, and conquer the wasteland!
